Wordpress Plugin: WP krpano

WP krpano is a plugin for Wordpress to embed krpano in articles using the simple shortcode:

Source code

[krpano xml="<xmlfile>"]

Please find additional information regarding WP krpano in the official Wordpress Plugin Directory.

This thread is intended for discussion about WP krpano. I welcome any questions, ideas, suggestions for improvement, or bug reports!

Hi Jens,

Just discovered your great plugin but have been completely unable to get it working :(

I uploaded on my website my pano.swf (krpano.file) with licence embedded in it, pano.xml file and subdirectory with all pictures used by KRPano. If I try directly the URL http://www.skivr.com/temp/pano.swf, it works.
Now if I try to include it in a post, whatever how I indicate path to xml file, I always get an I/O error on pano.xml file in post in WP.
May you confirm exact syntax to use ? as explanations on wordpress website are not enough detailed !

I tried among bunch of other syntax that one:

[krpano xml="http://www.skivr.com/temp/pano.xml"]

Thanks for your help,

Vincèn

If you have specified the URL to the pano.swf (krpano.swf) in the WP administration dialogs then this is how I am using it. I had a simiar problem report like yours where Autopano Tour was involved. Sadly the reporting person could not provide enough material to find the cause.

Could you specify the exact error message (I/O error)? I would be very glad if you could assist me findinding the cause of the error, as this could be a problem that others might be experiencing but are not reporting.

Do you have the swf and the xml in the same directory? This is my current setup. I will try with different directories tomorrow if I find some time. I feel that this is a problem that I did not think of due to my initial setup working w/o issues.

Thanks in advance, kind regards,
Jens

Hey Jens,

Thanks for your answer and help. As you spoke about AutoPano Tour, I tried then with an other panorama where I generated KRPano xml by hand and then it works :) http://www.skivr.com/?p=716
It looks it's definitively an AutoPano Tour generated panos the issue. What do you need to help you resolve that problem ? I include below code generated by AutoPano Tour for panorama not working with plugin ;)

Good to know that it might be somewhat related to the XML code generated by Autopano Tour and that it works with your hand written XML code.

Just to make sure: Did you use the krpano.swf that is shipped with Autopano Tour when trying to embed the Autopano Tour generated panorama? Did you use the same krpano.swf for your hand coded XML? I am unsure if there are differences/limitations in the krpano version that comes with Autopano Tour.

Thank you for providing the sample XML that causes the issue! From a first quick look I can not tell what is wrong. I will experiment with your XML over the weekend. Sorry for that delay, but I will probably not have time earlier.

Kind regards,
Jens

yep I used the krpano.swf generated by AutoPano Tour that is supposed to be the standard krpano.swf plus licence embedded in it ;)

In fact AutoPano Tour generates two xml files and I thought first it was the problem, so I merged both xml files in one, but it's still exactly same problem :( So that's very strange ! Please keep me informed if u find anything ;)

By the way posted an article on my blog explaining how to use your plugin ;) http://www.skivr.com/?p=739

Thank you for the kind article! I finally found some time to try and play with the XML you have provided. But I could not reproduce the issue.

Could you please send me a link to a sample by PM so that I can have a look at the HTML, XML, etc.? I really only need the URL, please do not send any files.

I only get an I/O error when embedding krpano without any XML input. I feel this might be a similar problem that is either caused by the HTML code generated by WP krpano or by some Autopano Tour specific behavior of its special version of krpano.

Thanks in advance, kind regards,
Jens

loading error

Hi Jens,

I've tried your plugin on my futur WP website actually under construction on my computer.

I've tried two option to visualized my panos:

one with shadowbox, who is calling an URL (html file: http://www.didier-oberson.ch/panoramas/2…chey/index.html), second is your WP plugin who's calling the swf file.

First works well, WP krpano not.

I've a message of "loading error - Security Error".

Like others, I'm working with Autopano Giga+Tour, with krpano license.

Hi Jens,

I confirm you it's definitively an issue with the krpano swf file used by AutoPano Tour *sad* I included with success a virtual tour in wp with your plugin at first shot *thumbsup*

I'll investigate with guys of AutoPano tour to know what modifications they did in KRPano that could explain such an issue !

Thanks,

Found myself solution to that issue with AutoPano Tour, here are steps to resolve problem ;)
  • Remove the swf generated by AutoPano Tour (APT) and put in place the original krpano swf and rename it with name of APT project, add also in same directory your KRPano licence file and rename it also
  • Edit each xml file generated by APT and complete all

    Source code

    1

    URL
tag with http header in that way, instead of reading ./something it should read http://www.yourwebsite.com/pathtosomething/something ! It can be easily done with find/replace function of any good text editor !
  • That's it, it should now display correctly your virtual tours made by APT in Wordpress (example: 7 Laux Ski Resort)

    Hope it helps *tongue*

Hope that helps

Hello Vincèn!

Great that you found a workaround for this issue! Let me make some remarks to the points you made:

Found myself solution to that issue with AutoPano Tour, here are steps to resolve problem ;)
  • Remove the swf generated by AutoPano Tour (APT) and put in place the original krpano swf and rename it with name of APT project, add also in same directory your KRPano licence file and rename it also

  • That's it, it should now display correctly your virtual tours made by APT in Wordpress (example: 7 Laux Ski Resort)

  • Replacing and renaming the SWF: It should work with the original krpano.swf without having to rename it, as the plugin specified the path to the SWF and the XML. I assume you did this to keep the Autopano Tour generated HTML working without modifications? I only have one krpano.swf on my server and may XMLs. This is why I thought it would be good to specify the URL to the SWF only once in the admin panels and then specify the XML in the shortcode.
  • Replacing relative with absolute URLs: It should work with relative URLs. This is how I use it on my server. You mentioned an I/O error. I get this when directing my browser directly to the SWF: "krpano.xml - loading error (IO Error)". When embedding krpano without specifying an XML i get a security error: "krpano.xml - loading error (Security Error)". Sadly krpano is not very verbose as it is in other cases when it would give some more information to debug the problem.

Doesn't it work when replacing only the SWF without replacing the relative URLs? I am really lost why it does not work with the Autopano Tour XML...

Kind regards,
Jens

RE: loading error

Hello Didier!

I've a message of "loading error - Security Error".

Like others, I'm working with Autopano Giga+Tour, with krpano license.

Did you miss to specify the URL to the XML file? The code should look like this: [krpano xml="<url-to-xml>"] or [krpano krpano="<url-to-swf>" xml="<url-to-xml>"]. I get your error message when dropping the xml attribute. This is because krpano will then try to load an XML file in the same path as the SWF with the same name as the SWF.

Kind regards,
Jens

Yep, just update your xml files with correct complete path to the soundinterface.swf file :)
