2x3 or 3x2 cubestrip support for video panorama

Am I correct in my understanding that panoramic video does not support the cubestrip format? I think that we could optimally compress the video w/ a 2x3 or 3x2 cubeface layout increasing the quality of the final output.

So far I have not found a way to exceed the 4k wide limitation for video but this would at lease give us 4k for 270 degrees rather than 4k for 360 degrees

+1 ... equirectangular format is definitly wasting a lot of bandwidth for video panoramas ... Cube stripes could be an interesting workaround. Has anybody done such a benchmark ? I mean cubestripe vs equirectangular of the same video ? I don't know that would affect the rendering, but it wouldn't even require rendering to find out how it affects the playback speed.
