too many swap files & struggles on EC2 Linux

  • I have a 6GB PSB file, trying to make multi resolution tiles on a EC2 linux box, below are the specs...

    • 64 bit
    • Ubnutu
    • 16GB RAM
    • Configured a 200GB mount as /tmp -- for temp file storage, all the kro's are going here
    • kmakemultires -- is on another mount /data -- that has around 50GB of disk space

    It fails at...

different stages, sometimes at creating tiles at Level 7 / 6.
    I observe...

    • Around 1100 swap files created, is that fine? on the disk
    • It does not seem to use swap memory configured on 'free -m' show used as 0
    • kmakemultires is using almost 15GB of RAM

    Questions...

    • Is there a better way for us to configure?
    • Has anybody tried on EC2 & working?

Appreciate all the help forum can share...

  • Hi,

the krpano tools have its own system-independent internal swapping system.

The swapped files will be written to this path:
    https://krpano.com/tools/kmakemultires/config/#tempdir

Additionally when images will be converted to cubical, the 'temporary' cube images will be written here:
    https://krpano.com/tools/kmakemultires/config/#tempcubepath

At these paths always enough disk-space should be free - when the writing there is failing, the tools will stop with a fatal-error.

    Best regards,
    Klaus
