textfield - autosize attribute explanation

I do not understand the difference in the autosize attributes within the textfield plugin...

what is the differences between left, right and center?

I'm using the standalone flashplayer (v9) for development... and I see no difference when I change between those three options.

also using 1.0.8b5

Thanks

Hi,

the "autosize" parameter is direct passed to the flash textfield,

this is documentation of it:
http://livedocs.adobe.com/flex/201/langr…d.html#autoSize

I see now, when "wordWrap" is enabled (it is enabled) the behavior
will be near the same for "left","center" and "right"

quote from the documentation:

"left:"

Zitat

If wordWrap is also set to true, only the bottom of the text field is resized and the right side remains fixed.
"center:"

Zitat

If wordWrap is also set to true, only the bottom of the text field is resized and the left and right sides remain fixed.
"right":

Zitat

If wordWrap is also set to true, only the bottom of the text field is resized and the left side remains fixed.

but I don't know what this means yet...

best regards,
Klaus

Reading back over the adobe documentation I think I understand the autosize left, center, right...

as you said, with wordwrap enabled as it is... then there will not be any difference in the display horizontally... the use of either of the three will set the vertical size to expand to contain all of the text... effectively ignoring the textfield height attribute.

IF wordwrap was NOT enabled... then...

left - would hold the left side of the textfield constant, assuming based upon location and size info supplied, and expand the right side to show the text

right - would hold the right side constant, based upon location and size specified, and expand the field to the left as needed.

center - holds the vertical center constant and expands right / left as needed... assuming equally... to show the text.

I'm not sure if there would be a benefit to change the textfield plugin in order to allow selection of wordwrap as true / false... which would enable the autosize right, left, center to function... but that may be a consideration to take.

the attribute is named "wordwrap",
it can be set to "true" or "false"

best regards,
Klaus
