lateral distortion

Hi, I'm looking for informations on how to avoid lateral distortion of the screen.
I meen, left and right side of the view are stretched and some time it is a bit annoying.
I've payed with fov but that's no good solution. I'd like to have 90 or 80 °).

What can I do ? When i use an old java viewer, it seems less stretched, there must be a solution ?

Is the distortion depending of image type ? (sphere, cubic)
Is it possible to find a summary about the view quality parameter in krpano ?

thank's !

use DFOV instead of HFOV. that will prevent dtretching on the edges as the diagonal FOV will be the same reguardless of monitor resolution.

Hi,

do you have a link?
maybe you just mean the normal rectilinear distortion at large fov...

by default the "fov" in krpano describes the vertical fov,
but this can be changed with the "fovtype" setting,

e.g.

Quellcode

1
<view ... fovtype="HFOV" fov="80" ... />

but you could also use the "fisheye" distortion,
e.g.

Quellcode

1
<view ... fisheye="0.35" ... />

this will also reduce such kind of distortion...

best regards,
Klaus

thank's for answer. I still can't find any solution :

here is a link for testing purpose only : http://www.netmachine.fr/developpement/fov/domaine_test.html
http://www.netmachine.fr/developpement/fov/domaine_test.xml

distortion is very important on buildings. I used a rectilinear 12mm ultra wide angle.
Autopano Giga to stitch and every things seems to be ok for me.

the panorama picture is : http://www.netmachine.fr/developpement/fov/pano_cour.jpg

Hi,

try using a cubical pano (e.g. use the SPHERE to CUBE droplet to convert it),

best regards,
Klaus

nothing changed with cubic. I uploaded some pictures of the screen to explain my problem more easely.

here is the problem : lateral distortion, look at the right side

here is the correct view when the building wich was on the right side is now in front of you :

anything to do ?

This may be missing the point - forgive me if it is. But when you are zoomed out a lot and aren't looking 'flat' at a surface such as that building it will *always* look distorted. If you look straight at it it won't.

This isn't a question of what stitcher to use or what panorama player either. It is just basic physics, math and geometry.

Hi,

right, that's the normal perspective distortion,

see here for more informations:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Perspective_distortion_(photography)

reduce the fov (=zoom more) to reduce that,

or use the fisheye/stereographic/pannini projection,
this will reduce such too, but therefore there are some other distortions,

e.g. maybe try:

Quellcode

1
<view fisheye="0.5" pannini="true" />

best regards,
Klaus
