fov not working in a partial spherical panorama?

I don't seem to be able to initialize or restrict the display FOV in my spherical panorama. The panorama's HFOV is 360 degrees but the VFOV is less than 180 degrees. This is my view tag:

<view hlookat="0" vlookat="0" maxpixelzoom="0.6" fovmax="60" fov="60" />

The first three attributes work as intended, but no matter what I put in the fov and fovmax, both the initial and maximum zoom are such that the entire vertical range of the partial panorama is displayed, filling the viewer entirely, and the horizontal range appears to be proportionally calculated from that (using the dimensions of the viewer window to obtain the H/V ratio). In wide+fullscreen this results in an excessively wide angle of view which appears unnatural. I'd rather begin with a zoomed in image and the possibility of looking up and down. What am I doing wrong?

Problem solved:

1.0.8 beta 9 - fovtype setting

Silly me, I was assuming I was dealing with the horizontal field of view but apparently that isn't the default! Fixed by adding fovtype="hfov" .
