360 degree lens for video

Can someone provide a list of lenses (or 360 video device) which can be used to shoot 360 degree video.

atm I've seen
Eggsolutions ($600)
0-360 ($600)
Immersive media (although I can't find a price)
Kaidan
ladybug (no price indication)

I want to use krpano to display the video's, so I dont want a lens which is bound to the developers software (other then outputting to a workable format that krpano can read)

alsoo it must be a 360x180 (so sony's bloggie is out of the question :()

The ladybug2 was on Panoguide. There was a used one going for 6500€.

They stated they were selling it for 4000€ less than they paid for it.

More than just the camera

Immersive Media's system is certainly much more than just the camera as there is quite big need for processing the amount of video material from camera(s).
Even more, if someone needs live video feeds, it's probably beyond what can be currently done with krpano.

The entire system is about $60,000 Canadian. Quite a high price to pay for specialized functionality. Unless you have clients paying hundreds of thousands of dollars for your work this will be a very high end commercial application.

How about the krpano video example? krpano.com/video
Which equipment was used for that?

Alsoo what would be the maximum bitrate you could achieve to maintain a good framerate. I reckon for good quality you need atleast 3000x1500 spherical (rather 6kx3k and up) which is 50% more then Full HD video. And from experience I know that full hd video needs atleast 3500 to 8000 kbit/s (about 0.5-1mb/s). So I reckon that being a doable avg downloadspeed.

the video there is from www.virtual-surfers.com,

There are some specifications on their website about data rate and other things so one could compare that to specs of Ladybug etc.

Anyway, the image quality of video panoramas is still quite low but could be enough if size of panorama is small enough.
Hopefully quality of video gear improves in the future… :(

Panopro looks a good lens, Onyl I dont like the fact it has its own player. I want to keep the strength and versitility of krpano. For that reason alone, I would not buy it

yes if it cant be unwrapped and used in krpano it is useless to almost anyone here.

Thomas Hayden has a good blog on all things related to 360 video, http://360videoblog.blogspot.com/

Looks like many productions are using the Yellowbird camera system.

Hi Tuur,

Are you 100% sure that they use the laybird 3 ?
I found yellow bird's quality better then the ptgrey examples ..

And the ladybird is angular but the yellow bird looks rather round ..
So maybe it's the ladybird 2 ...

i personally dont recommend any of the reflection mirrors (one shot) like egg, kaidan, 0-360, pano pro etc... I have tried that type and it's seriously bad quality, not worth displaying on anything except maybe as a low quality clip on youtube. moreover, to focus on these things is disastrous, and they get damaged (scratches etc...) really quick.

i have not tried the ladybug, or any of the other advanced solutions.
