well a turntable is great for small objects, I have an old LP turntable that I used before, just turn the table little by little depending on how smooth you want the object to rotate its the number of photos you need.

for big objects like a car, lay down a piece of rope around the object and just rotate using the rope for guide, the same principal, depending on how smooth its the number of photos, the only downside is that the background moves also, but sometimes it looks cool or if you have a big garage you can control the background and lighting.

for software you can use pano2qtvr but beware there are no more updates, and the program will strip out any exif data from your photos, as well as minor bugs here and there, nothing major.

there should be other software but I can't remember the name right now, I will look around and let you know :)

I played with the free limited version they have but haven't done much with it.

In theory a flash based image rotation swf could be used as a plugin in krpano... but it will dependent upon the swf you want to plugin. I can't remember for sure, but I think there can be issues with controlling the "stage" or something (sorry, I don't get into flash... I'm just trying to recall what I've seen on the forum with other swf plugins like galleries and such).

As far as how... turntable and light box for smaller items.

One key would be to have a good software that could remove the background if needed... I think anything3d did something like this as well...

We tried shooting a car inside a warehouse and did what shanti said. Used a rope and drew around the car. The result is a bit disappointing. The car doesn't turn smoothly and seems to jerk. Well, practice makes perfect. So we were thinking of getting a revolving stage but it's expensive. I contacted a manufacturer of revolving stages. Here's his picasa album.

If you go really slow you can see that the transitions / blurs are based upon the image sequence... and it's very nice work.

I played around with a java based program a long time ago and it was fun. What I liked at the time was that I could setup a image grid and rotate the full 360 horizontal as well as + / - 90... which you could do now with krpano. Maybe I'll work on a demo with some sample images.

I wouldn't ever try to pass this off as a real solution but it's a basic proof of concept.

There are probably several ways to optimize this and get something passable... but that will have to be another night.

Last month we created our first object movies. We would be really happy if we could view them with krpano. Imagine to use krpano for pano 360 - virtual tours, gigapixel, 360 video, 3d object movies...the ultimate tool.

I can imagine doing a panorama of a shop, and then having various objects on shelves as hotspots that open a 360-degree view of the object. Anyone done this yet ?
