is there a way we can manipulate the vertical distance between text lines in the css settings of the textfield?

You can use line-height, Also letter-spacing can be used for HTML5

I use a stylesheet with different settings for HTML5 and flash

Devices="html5"
font-family:Verdana;
color:#000000;
font-size: 14px;
font-weight:normal;
letter-spacing:1px;
line-height:20px;

For flash leading gives the same as line-height.

devices="flash"
font-family:Verdana;
font-size: 14px;
leading:4px;
