Measuring real-life distance (using two separate panoramas perhaps)?

Hi!

So recently I've been given the task to be able to make measurements of objects displayed in the panoramas. I've found this old topic, needless to say that this subject isn't an easy one. I now understand, that just by using a single image it's impossible to do. However, we're open to any suggestions and solutions? Have any of you ever did something like this in practice? I've looked up a lot of material about this online, but it's all quite confusing at the moment. Perhaps any ideas on how to proceed if say we had two shots of the same location? Btw, it doesn't have to be an automatic process, manual input (like selecting the corresponding points on the two images) is fine as long as we get a good result. We also obviously have access to camera parameters, such as focal length, sensor size, height of the tripod etc, whatever is needed.

Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks!

You need to measure distance with parallax and know the distance between both view points.
Google "measure distance with parallax".

Hi,

I have this problem solved - https://gomel360.by/airzoom/
to activate measurement mode press button in the lower left corner
to set the start and end points - click on the panorama
distance shown in the lower left corner

this tour is demo version, under construction now

best regards

Thanks for your help, both of you.

Sg, I will google that a bit later, as I'm not at my workstation right now.

Taurus, as for your solution, this looks quite interesting. Care to share how it works?

Point panorama has certain geographic coordinates and height above the ground
working principle is based on determining the coordinate points on the ground surface
measurements are possible only in the plane of the earth surface, and only if it is horizontal
accuracy depends on the correct definition of the height of the survey point, a virtual tour have the integrated adjustment mechanism
you can compare the results of measurements on the panorama and Google maps, you can measure the dimensions of the car - the error is small

I see. Well, thanks for the explanation. Sadly, this probably won't work for us, since we need to make this work inside of houses and flats, with no geographical data available, and surfaces often not flat. Thanks anyway. I will look into this parallax thing later. Cheers!

Measuring real-life distance (using two separate panoramas perhaps)

Hi
Taurus
Is there a better case to calculate the distance between two points? Calculate the distance between any two points in space.

thankyou

Hi, zyz
I do not know another method for spherical panoramas
What you see in my example works is assuming that the surface of the earth's surface is flat, without gradients

Hi ,Taurus
Thank you for your reply, I have seen your demo, I would like to measure the distance between any hotspots inside pano, for example, can measure the height of the object, width, etc.
Thankyou!

Yes, the height can also be measured, but I do not have such an example for demonstration
