What does prerelease mean

  • I need to ask what it means that all the new versions you are posting are prerelease versions.

Does it mean that they at some time stops working?
I know that this happened with one of your older preview versions.

This is important to know for us who deliver the tours to customers.
Currently I have 12 tours I recently delivered to the national museum which now
have to be exchanged due to the recent changes from Apple IOS 10.

  • Hi,

it only means that not all features that are planed for 1.19 are ready yet.

    E.g. see the 'Why a Pre-Release?' notes:
krpano 1.19 - Pre Release 1 - WebVR / MobileVR / Stereoscopic 3D Support (Oculus Rift, Google Cardboard, GearVR, ...)
    krpano 1.19 - Pre Release 2
    krpano 1.19 - Pre Release 3

Currently these core features are still in work for the 'final' release:
    - Stereoscopic 'input' support (is already finished and will be there in the next release)
    - A replacement for the Flash-based VTour-Editor (originally planed for 1.20 but now pushed up)
    - Better 'Text' support - for layers and also for hotspots (especially for WebGL-rendering and VR support)
    - Polygonal hotspot rendering via WebGL (e.g. for VR support)
    - and many many smaller improvements and fixes

Originally this long pre-release phase wasn't planed of course, but some things had taken longer to develop or to fix and some others were unexpected and so on...
But basically it's safe to use these version of course and I also would hardly recommend using them - even when they are called 'pre-release'.

    Best regards,
    Klaus
