Any way to determine when mouse click is on a pano image instead of an interface layer?

Title says it all. Can anyone think of a good way of detecting when a mouse click is on an actual pano image vs. any skin layer that sits over it?
This seems like it should be straightforward but I just can't seem to come up with a good way to do it other than setting mouse events for each individual layer that toggles a variable or something.

Duh, Sometimes I swear posting a question to the forum actually triggers an idea for a solution...
This is an easy one. events.onclick only fires when the pano image itself is clicked instead of an interface layer. Sorry to waste bandwidth on this one *cry*
