Load new multires level on the fly when using depthmap

I know that automatic multires isn't supported by krpano when using depthmaps, but is it possible to force krpano to load and apply a new multires level using actions? The two effects I would like to do is switch to the minimum resolution level during 3D transitions to somewhat hide seams / skewed geometry, and to switch to a higher resolution once the default level (l3) has finished loading.
Setting the lockmultireslevel and downloadlockedlevel variables seem to do nothing, at least on a depthmap project.
