Revisiting parent=STAGE focus issue?

This topic was semi-addressed about two years ago in this thread:

It's been 2 years since there has been activity on the thread so I figure it's time for a new one.

I had asked a similar question even longer ago with regards to input-select elements with parent=STAGE.
Well, Im full circle on this again as I have a input=text field with parent=STAGE based on a plugin that needs to gain focus().
Anyone have any form of direction that I can be pointed in to figure this one out?
