Blender 2.9 360 render with Depthmap

Hi.

Just curious to know if anyone has worked out a good way to also create a depth map of a 360 degree render in Blender?

I have a large urban area that I can create 360 renders in numerous locations to display in krpano as a tour but I like the idea of introducing depth maps to make it more interesting.

Thanks for your time.

You can try to prepare your model for using as 3D-depthmap in krp.
Or just render a 360 depthmap image. There are many options to do it (and many things to tune for good results). Search for 'blender mist pass' or 'blender depht pass''.

Best regards!

Thanks for the reply Mische.

Yes have already followed several tutorials online about mist pass and nodes but seem to get weird artifacts appearing or it doesn't line up correctly. I was thinking it was because my render is a full 360 degrees and not just a regular camera shot in one direction and covering 50mm view.

Will keep trying and see what these 'many things to tune for good results' are. I should also practice on smaller renders in Cycles as current time for high res 360 is 3hrs, 45 mins and that's if it doesn't crash *blink*

Interesting stuff though working with Blender and really enjoying it.

Here a screenshot of the depth-pass output in the compositer:

I have used an equirectangular camera in cycles. Max Samples = 1. The render was done in around 20 scecounds!
You can tweak a lot with the ColorRamp node. Not sure what is the best setting here..

Best regards!
