Trying to update older version of Maps with new Google API

I have an older version of the maps plug in from when the maps were free. I have just created and new project and need to update the API and any other URLs or ID needed. I have registed in Google Maps and got a new API . Any info is appreciated to try and get it working.

Hi,

using 'older' APIs is only possible to a certain level (only a few releases below the current version), then Google automatically redirects to the newer API.
