Google Cardboard

Alright guys, i just found out about this Googles jokely created VR system called Google Cardboard https://developers.google.com/cardboard/ (Hands on here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eT9vmpE8WcY)

Basically it's a cardboard with 25mm lenses which will hold android phone in front of the lenses to create a virtual headset! I saw this could be great way show virtual tours in a very cost efficient way. Any ideas if it could work?

Cheers,
Jesse

Hi,

you could try using krpano in a way like here:
http://krpano.com/stereo3d/#top
and additionally try to use the gyro plugin for pan control, but as the gyro support in the Android browser is really bad, the result might be not very useful...

In the longer term I'm following the development of the new WebVR browser interfaces (see here: Firefox, Chrome) and as soon as these interfaces become stable and available in normal browser versions, I will try adding support for them.

Best regards,
Klaus

Hi Klaus!

Yea thought that would be the most suitable for now. I need to build my own and find someone with proper phone since mine is not android but i saw the opportunity in this to easily wow people. That cardboard app does have some kind of panorama viewer inside but it needs to have spherical panoramas inside the device to run them. I will start to look into this more after i find lenses to make it. This could work with any phone with qyro support tho since our panoramas are not platform dependable. Side question, do you have any idea if WP 8.1 will bring any kind of qyro support? There was some kind of improvement of that but couldn't find anything specific.

Thank you for the reply! I will post results when i have them.

Regards,
Jesse

Ok i built one and tried with my phone without qyro and 3D panoramas work amazingly well! I was blown away with it even tho i had to use finger to watch around. This is really worth it to test out. Will do my own test this week and go try with proper phone.

Edit: I shot couple test 3D panoramas yesterday. Seems to work fine but i need to try it out later with proper phone: http://www.passojadesign.com/wp-content/…est/sbs23d.html and http://www.passojadesign.com/wp-content/…test/sbs3d.html

KrPano and Google Cardboard or similar

Hello. Can you please inform how's implementation with Cardboard going? I need to know if I can use KrPano in order to deploy a solution that will work with either Iphones or Android phones in order to view and interact (move from one pano to another) without mouse (only using gyroscope)

How's Oculus Rift support going? Really interested in deploying interface

Any help in the right directing will be helpfull + will post all results to this forum. *g*

Can you give us an idea on an approximate release date? Three months? Six? It will be great to know. I love KrPano
