In flash mode mask works but in html5 doesn't (ver. 1.18.2)
What's wrong with this code or is it a bug?
It doesn't work with distorted video either.

the mask setting is very special and Flash-only one.
There is no equal technical possibility in HTML5.

Wish it was on a to-do list. 
The lack of mask support makes video hotspots production way more complicated.

there exists no equal feature in HTML/CSS.
The old Flashplayer 'mask' feature was a very special Flash one - think like about using one html <div> element as alpha-mask for another <div> element, that's not possible in HTML.
And trying to 'emulate' that via custom WebGL rendering code, like first rendering the mask image to an extra texture and then in a second pass rendering the to be masked image with that extra texture would be pretty laborious and inefficient, especially when several hotspots would use that.
That means there are not plans for that, in makes more sense using what's technically possible in a normal way, e.g. when the reason for the mask usage is just a fade-out/blend-out around the hotspots, it would be way easier and more efficient implementing that as special WebGL shader for this case.

why not try to put another interactive area image on the image or the video?
