Map custom Image Overlay

Wondering if there's anyway to overlay a png or jpeg image over either the Google or Bing map plugin, or if this is possible using the "mapsapi" attribute. The mapspots would be layered on top of the image. Something similar to this: https://developers.google.com/maps/docum…/overlay-simple

Does anyone have any experience with this? I was able to insert a map image over the plugin, but the two weren't connected when scrolling.

Thanks!

A little bump since I'm more or less wondering about the same thing.

For a project using krpano to view historical surroundings in different time periods I'm looking into projecting the matching historical map as an overlay onto the google map. However, the java map object isn't exposed directly nor can I find an option to add an overlay in a way similar to what is described by Google. https://developers.google.com/maps/docum…doverlay-simple gives a good idea of what we are trying to accomplish.
Can you tell me how to achieve this, or provide any other means to do so.

Another Bump, I would like to know if it is possible to use a custom overlay tied into the googlemaps plugin
