Nice to see it implemented somewhere.

When we talked about that long time ago, I suggested not to make the current behaviour of binoculars, like you can see in the video, but just recalculate the speed of movement depending on the level of zoom that you are. So when you turn your head 10º in a deep zoom you actually don't move 10º and this way you avoid the so heavy speed of image.

I'm sure we will have it around some time...

Hi,

personally I think zooming in VR doesn't work well, especially for panoramic images - the resulting distortions are looking strange...

But okay ;-) - for the next krpano release I've added a 'zoom' setting for the WebVR plugin (and a 'friction' setting to reduce shakiness on high zooms). Then everyone can be play with zooming and various ways how to zoom in VR.

Later I will post some example for testing.

Best regards,
Klaus

Hi,

okay - here some tests/examples with zooming in VR (for testing I would recommend a good VR headset, e.g. use a HTC Vive with Firefox or a GearVR with the Oculus Browser):

How it works:
- for starting to zoom stare 2 seconds at one point,
- for stopping and zooming back look around.

The Tokyo 45 Gigapixel pano (up to 75x zoom):
https://krpano.com/examples/webvr_zoom_test/?example=1

Paris 432 Megapixel (10x zoom):
https://krpano.com/examples/webvr_zoom_test/?example=2

And a Stereo pano (3x zoom):
https://krpano.com/examples/webvr_zoom_test/?example=3

The zooming in these example will be controlled by one xml action - here its source:
https://krpano.com/viewsource.html?examp…m_test/test.xml

Please let me know how it works for you.

Best regards,
Klaus

Woww!
I think it works already very nice!
(Tested on Cardboard)
For the tokyo version i would prefer a bit more ‘rest’...

Great stuff!
Thanks Klaus!

Just tested with gear vr and totally agree with klaus.

Anyway it's quite fun and it's a new feature we can offer to our clients, so I guest I can dust my old Rodeon VR Head ST

Thanks for the implementation !!

I don't see that really in a cardboard.
Can you describe what it looks like?

I think it works quite nice already !

Excelent Klaus,

Very nice feature to have in VR, specially for gigapixel images but I just tested in GearVR and I feel that zooming the whole field of view is not very natural and feels strange.

Guess you saw this recent video with some facebook backed investigation around the same subject, their solution with a separate loupe which seems very interesting:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XiGPdil45wM

Personally I think this could be much more natural way to zoom in VR. Don't know how difficult would be to implement this one in Krpano but I share it hoping it helps for some inspiration.

Best *thumbup*

Luis

I have already tried adding a vignette (by using a flying hotspot with a png image) that blacks-out the peripheral view and shows only a small view in the center, but in my view this also doesn't help...

Hello Klaus, i am testing the zoom in my tours, but i don´t know how it works, did it needs the pr13 version to work?, im with the pr12

What makes it work?, please explain the xml file a little because with the <action name="webvr_zooming" scope="local" autorun="onstart"> i can´t make it work.

Regards.

It seems that we need the pr14 version to have zoom support. I also tried the zoom action with pr13 and it's not supported there. Hope Klaus will make this new release soon ;-)

Alexey
