Is WebXR detection working?

  • I recently ran some VR detection tests and for whatever reason, I didn't find any browser where webvr.iswebxr returns "true" while webvr.iswebvr continues to be "true" -- not even Firefox Reality or the Oculus Browser. The reason I tested was in the WebVR documentation on MDN Web Docs they state, "This feature [WebVR] is no longer recommended. Though some browsers might still support it, it may have already been removed from the relevant web standards, may be in the process of being dropped, or may only be kept for compatibility purposes."

As long as our tours keep working, who cares, I guess. Or.... are there problems on the horizon.

    This is using v1.20.5.

  • Hi,

when both APIs - WebVR and WebXR - are available the same time, krpano uses the WebVR API by default.
That behavior can be changed by the webxr embedding setting.

See also the WebXR release post for details:
    https://krpano.com/forum/wbb/inde…80791#post80791

and especially also here the WebVR / WebXR comparison page:
    https://krpano.com/examples/webxr/

The last time I had tested WebXR, it was only available in
    - Desktop Chrome with Window MR Headsets
    - Android Chrome
    - Oculus Browser

Firefox and Firefox Reality don't have WebXR support yet.

    Best regards,
    Klaus
