Combobox labels and dates

Today I found that it seems not possible to have a date like 23.09.2010 in the label of the combobox.
Instead of the labels Day1, Day2, I would like to have 23.09.2010, 24.09.2010, ...
Is that possible, and if so: how?

Perhaps you are using an old version?...

Thank you very much, Michel.
That worked. Well, almost.
With the code you posted, the items appear double, first with the date and second with the label.
To get it the way I wanted it I had to use it like this:
