Image map substitue

Hi,

I'm doing a virtual tour where when you click a hotspot it should display a photo (just a zoomed photo of that area). Example you click on a book shelf, it would show a photo of the books in that shelf. What I want is the books on the photo are also hotspots that when you do a mouse over it shows a title, or when you click it opens up a website on a new window(like amazon.com) and shows you that book there.

Has anyone ever done something like this? I was thinking of just using Image maps but I checked the Flash supported html tags and it is not there. Is there a ready plugin like this? or an easier solution than creating my own flash plugin?

Thanks,
Milo

Well, this is somewhat easy if you know Flash, i don't think you can do this with an image map (in html) but, i am sure a hotspot of that particular book,k would help you, the problem is you will have to create a hotspot for every book in that bookshelf.

using the hotspotplugin it should be easy to do that, just more work than a imagemap :(

Hi,

you want to open show a image with hotspots on the image?

it would be possible to overlay the image with additional images (maybe transparent ones)
and use this images as hotspots, but then their shape is limited to a rectangle

best regards,
Klaus

Hello,

I was able to implement this on my site by using jquery.

http://drupal.org/project/jq_maphilight

You can see it on action by clicking on the "camera equipment" hot spot. *smile*

Hi Tuur,

What browser are you using? I will attempt to fix it so that mac users can see it. I'll try http://browsershots.org I'm still waiting for the screen shots to arrive. I recently made a bug fix on IE i'm hoping I could make a fix for the problem you're encountering.

Hi Milotimbol,

I use an older Safari... 2.0.4... gonna Leopard soon ;-)

Just checked your site... still no difference accept that i can't close the transparent screens (that shouldn't be transparent) because the top menu bar is over the white cross (to close the screens)..

Good luck..
When it works i'll be very interested and you may be can help with the java part..

Cheers

Tuur,

A got a screenshot from broswer shots. It seems to be working fine on Safari 3.2.1 / Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard).

Maybe you just need to upgrade to this version? And thanks for finding that bug. The floating window was appearing below the top panel. It's fixed now. That's one less bug to find *smile*

Thanks,
Milo
