FATAL_ERROR - xml parsing failed!

I'm getting this message when I try to view a tour on the iphone, it's ONLY showing up on the iPhone, works from desktop, in Chrome, IE, Firefox and Safari. The XML is based on the new VTour multires droplet with a few initial changes, added a splash screen to the first scene, along with the scale 16:9 mask and made a few small changes to the way the thumbnails appear.

At first it was working on the iPhone, but then I added an "alturl" and a "devices="desktop" to a plugin and it somehow got broken. Remains broken after commenting those out.

Can anyone see why it's failing on the iPhone?

Hi,

you are using an iPhone with an iOS 3.* or?

this iOS version is very (maybe too) sensitive for xml errors,
when there are non ascii characters without character set definition it stops xml parsing,

the easiest solution should be to open the xml and save it again in UTF8 format,
then it should work,

best regards,
Klaus

i just had a similar issue. i have all my plugins on my skin.xml file at this point I only had 2 of them and they were coded right no xml issues. When checking the tour in safari i got this error. it worked in IE and Mozilla. All I did was remove <include url="skin.xml"/> from my main pano. saved it. refreshed the safari brouser. obviosly the 2 skin pieces were gone. added the same line back. saved and refreshed and it loaded with out error. I never even really changed anything. Almost like it got a bad read, cahced it and would not let me move on.

Still not working

I'm using NotePad++ as my XML editor, changed the new document default to UTF-8, copied the existing XML into it and saved it. Uploaded that, guess it's in UTF-8 format, not sure how to tell that, but it's still not working for me, perhaps a cache issue. Tried clearing the cache, still no luck.

And I'm using iOS 4.1 on a 3GS phone.

Has anyone else been able to test this on an iPhone or tablet?

Regards,

Robert

I am trying but I can't seem to establish what I have tested and what I have not. I am trying to sub in my images to test but it proves difficult. Have you cut it down to a few scenes to see if you can narrow it down that way?

Glad to help. Now what will you do about the symbol? I guess there are other ways to display it???

Just so you know, I was looking at the xml via Safari and it showed the line that had the error. It just took a bit of thinking to realize the error. As you scroll down the page, it had a "whitespace cannot be here" or something like that. I looked right over it several times. I may try using Safari with the developer tools again for debugging.

Good Insight and "&" = and

Thanks for the insight into figuring out the issue, sounds like a very good aid when faced with an xml error.

And, for now I've just changed the "&" to and, perhaps not as pretty, but it works.

Robert

FATAL_ERROR - xml parsing failed Solved!

You need to open the file in Safari and force the option by pasing the parameter ?HTML5=prefer, that should force to use the HTML5 interface and show the error if there is one. I recommend Safari because that's the browser used by iOS.

I had an error related to writing -- after <!-- and before --> (between comments) and a & sign as well.

Just an FYI....I was having this issue and, for the life of me, I could not find the character problem. So, I pasted my xml code into this website:

http://www.xmlvalidation.com/

and, voila, it showed me exactly what the problem was. HTML5 is so needy.
