html/xml organization question - experts please respond

Reading numerous threads, I have noticed experienced programmer uses multiple xml files to create their VR tours, like global.xml, plugin.xml etc. etc.

Could you guys give an overview how and what type of xml files makes most sense for organization/editing? Besides, does plugin.xml contains all the plugins, or is there some plugin that should not be put in http://plugins.xml/will not work? What is should go in global.xml? Is there any other type of xml files one should create, that I am not aware of?

I am trying to make tours iPhone/iPad compatible, thought I should mention that.

Understand I am a complete novice and thanks in advance.

There are no rules. It's only for convenience.
One thing you can do is to use the devices setting on the include tag. This would allow different configurations for different devices.

I understand it is a convenience issue and I want it to easy to manage in future, that is exactly what I had in my mind. Can you expand on "device settings" and may be give me an example? I have no prior experience in xml/html

What about http://global.xml/plugin.xml? What goes in there?

What I usually do is to separate code by "modules", so that it's easier to reuse it on different tours. For instance, if I use google maps on a tour, I put everything related to it on a "googlemaps.xml" file.

i do that also.
And also make maps like:
- global (optional global xml)
- local (here the xml) like tour.xml
plugins.xml (with the editor etc)
actions_load.xml
actions_move.xml
actions_special.xml
structure.xml
I include them when i need it.

etc etc

- pics
- plugins
- skin
- viewer
etc

I'm used to make for every device a different interface. And i like to do that in seperate xml. but not for everything.
