Most likely there are no actions assigned to the controllers. You need to find out the codes of controllers and buttons and assign events to them. I once dealt with this issue for quest 2, I even made a menu, bound to controllerbound to controllertied to tied totied tiedtied

for example, I would like to zoom via the joystick on the controller on my hand
Zooming in VR isn't the best idea...
...but implementing such should be possible.

E.g. store the VR controller positions on a button press and then use the distance-change between both positions to change the zoom:
