Use of HTML5 for partial panoramas

  • I firstly have to confess I am not at all familiar with the detailed workings of krpano

I use a now-defunct software product Panotour Pro (v2.5.14) to create Partial Panoramas and tours using this software which itself uses krpano under license to produce the panoramic images.

I believe it uses krpano 1.18 embedded to achieve this as this as a current version when Panotour (Kolor) ceased trading

There is a resolution problem for partial panos (which used to addressed by Adobe Flashplayer) in that only full equirectangular panos (360x180) make use of full HTML% capabilities and to enable this to apply to partial panos of any size a Windows Registry "hack" has to be used to force Panotour to produce all results as 360x180 and then use automatic cropping to bring them back to their required size. This is still working OK even in Win 11 but has a serious effect on file size and performance.

My question is whether this restriction on the use of HTML5 only for full 360x180 panos is still in effect in krpano 1.21 or has been removed.

    regards

    Martin

  • Hi,

    No restrictions at all.

Visit this link and zoom in..
    This is a partial/flat pano with quite a resolution. 100% krpano 1.21.x

    Does that answer your question?

Otherwise have a look here for example:

    krpano

Instead of ptp, which you could update i think ( never used it).. there are also other tour builders, like csm4vr and others.. and i think to remember Klaus is also brewing something.

Besides that you have the options to code it all yourself or partially and use some 3th party plugins or hire someone to make a tour or a template + 'droplet'.

    Tuur*thumbsup*

  • It sounds like you're dealing with some intricacies of panorama creation using Panotour Pro and krpano. As of my last update, which is January 2022, I don't have specific information about the features or updates in krpano version 1.21.

However, regarding your query about HTML5 restrictions for partial panoramas, it's possible that there have been updates or changes in krpano that might have addressed this issue since version 1.18. To get the most accurate information, I recommend checking the latest documentation or release notes provided by krpano or contacting their support directly. They would likely have the most up-to-date information on any changes or improvements in functionality, including HTML5 support for partial panoramas.

I noticed a response from Klaus at krpano on here right above your entry

Anyway I stumped up my 65Euro and upgraded my system to krpano 1.21 from 1.18 as suggested and it worked like a charm.

I no longer have to generate all panos of whatever size as 360x180 in order to pick up HTML5 graphics.

I just spent 2 days regenerating all 600 of my panos and uploading them as replacements on my hosting site. I had no issues at all and saved over 50% on the number of files created and the response time to download and display is way better so I am a happy bunny !

    regards
