Navigator Pro 3DOF/6DOF

  • Hi,

I'm a user of krpano for years, but I wanted to upgrade my workflow and user experience of virtual tours. I am an interior designer and until now, I'm rendering my panoramic images in 3DS max with vray, putting the images together in krpano tools - create some hotspots to navigate - and watch the tour in a 3DOF headset, a browser on my desktop or mobile device.

But... as I mentioned before, I want to upgrade my workflow. I would like to make a more walktrough experience with for example the navigator Pro plugin in with a Meta Quest 2 or Pico 4. I do have 2 questions:

    - At the moment I am not an Everpano user / license owner (only krpano). Is it worth the work and the money (for everpano and a new VR headset) to switch from 3DOF to 6DOF?
    - As far as I know, I do not need the Everpano software for modeling, I only need it for de Navigator plugin, which feels like a waste of money. Are there alternatives to use for the experience I'm looking for?

    Thank you!

  • It all depends on what you are going for. Do you want to user to have full freedom (walk around anywhere) or do you just want to add a sense of depth?

One option : bake your textures, export your model as .obj and use krpano to "walk around" the model. Here is how I did it, but there are more examples elsewhere:

    Kri-Soft Virtual Gallery for krpano

Another option: export your model as .stl and use it as a depthmap for your panorama's. This gives limited freedeom for movement, but does provide the sense of 3D when viewed in a VR headset.

Another discussion here is here: Navigation plugin

  • Yes, that's the navigation style I am looking for (did you make it with Floor-hotspot at the Mouse-position?). But to be honest, I don't want to export my 3D models or bake textures (my models are to heavy). I just want to achieve this effect with a rendered 'normal' panorama and a rendered depth map panorama. It must look very photorealistic.

This is how I create the geometry zdepth:

And this is what I want to achieve: http://novosibpano.ru/test/obj1/

And here an example of how it looks like at the moment: https://virtueelverbouwen.nl/vr/2313ng31/tour.html

  • Hello Roos,

What you want to achieve cannot be done with only greyscale depthmaps.

Greyscale depthmaps can be used to have 3D transition, but for navigating in 3D space (VR, or AWSD), there will be a lot of distortions.

This example krpano project uses depthmap images:

    krpano

So you can experience the limitations of these greyscale images yourself...

  • But to be honest, I don't want to export my 3D models or bake textures (my models are to heavy)

Hello. I am working with a company that is doing a project in UE5, then it downloads to me a model that has 2-3 million+ triangles and weighs from 1-2 GB. I simplify it in a blender to adequate 15-20k triangles without losing much in the perception of depth and volume and I calmly use it in krpano. So the weight of the model is not a limitation)

How good it would be to have a tutorial on how to do that work in Blender and then take it to Krpano. It would serve us all. Can you do it when you have time?

  • I tried krpano with meta quest 3 and it is awesome

it's just krpano. you make a 3dmodel or model with stl files and you can really walk in it.

    check depthmaped from examples

currently quest 2 is cheap and it has 6dof movement with krpano on a webpage

    stereoscopic is great too

in quest 3 hand-tracking is not supported (yet.. i hope) but.. it is a great experience
