krpano 1.23 - 3D Gaussian Splatting Support

Subject: Testing krpano with Gaussian Splats

Dear friends,

While I’m not new to photogrammetry and 3DGS, I have no prior experience with krpano XML editing. Still, I find krpano’s 3D Gaussian Splatting support to be an excellent way to showcase splats—it’s a much better experience compared to rendered movies.

This is my first attempt, presenting four Gaussian Splat models. Ideally, I’d like to add four intro images.

I just uploaded the page and noticed it doesn’t display correctly on iPhone, but I’ll fix that later.

Also, just for testing, I added the vtour skin. I realize it’s almost useless in this context, but I wanted to experiment with thumbnails and the skin layout.

Any feedback or advice would be greatly appreciated—thank you!

such a great place, congratulations
there is a setting that inverts the rotation for more a like "dollhouse" so dragging left and right inverts. I guess your using it but for me would make more sense to drag left and move left -> it's in the toolbox on the left "first person"

This is outstanding work! Thanks to everyone involved, looking to start testing this very soon for archaeological projects. Apologies if this has been asked before in this thread but is any support for hotspots? I see that 3DVista have a similar system using 3DGS and hotspots so guessing it's possible.

Yes! I was succesful with normal and 3d hotspots.

Ah great! Are there any demos I can view, or any documentation for how hotspots are set in 3DGS? TIA

Check this example and find at the bottom 'Central 2 with Threejs models'.

It is also in your krp download examples folder and in the splats-example.xml on line 396 you can find the scene where those hotspots are added.

Just wanted to say a big thank you to Kristof Meirlaen for his barebones example tutorial video, was a great help in understanding the setup for these 3DGS tours.

Would love to see further video tutorials for the various settings and tools at some point in the future. We really need a donate button for the legends behind Krpano and the awesome community on this forum!

Are these links being posted with the intend to show a use case on what we want to do with krpano?

Right now, many of these things are not possible, but I do hope we are heading into this direction with krpano!
