How to clear cloud storage space?

Even when you delete files on a host, they usually just move to a trash bin and still take up space. You’ve gotta empty it properly to free anything up. Also worth clearing logs and temp files.

For cPanel:

1. Log into cPanel → go to Files → File Manager
2. Click the View Trash button in the toolbar.
3. In the Trash view either:
   • Select files/folders and click Delete to remove them permanently.
   • Or click Empty Trash to clear everything at once, then confirm.
4. If you like, when deleting normal files you can check “Skip the trash and permanently delete” so they never go into Trash.

For DirectAdmin:

1. Log into DirectAdmin → go to File Manager (usually under “System Info & Files”).
2. Navigate to the directory where unwanted files/folders are stored (including backups, logs, etc.).
3. Select the items and click Delete. Confirm the deletion. Some hosts use a hidden .trash folder where items end up.
4. If there is a Trash folder (e.g., ~/.trash), go there and delete its contents too to actually free space

Afterwards, refresh the stats or give it a quick restart and you should see the space update.

Running out of cloud storage can be really frustrating.
