I kept hand-building the same thing in every tour — a way for visitors to get from one scene to the next without reading a scene list — so I turned it into a plugin.
Walk Navigation draws a flat arrow on the floor toward every neighbouring scene. A click turns toward the arrow, walks through the room in 3D, and the new scene arrives facing the direction the visitor walked, so nobody has to find their bearings again after every step.
Setting it up is one encrypted plugin folder copied next to the tour XML and two elements added to it: an include for a small file that holds one spot element per scene (its position on a plan of the building and its heading), and one layer element where every setting is an attribute.
<include url="walknav.xml" />
<layer name="z360_walk_navigation" url="plugins/z360_walk_navigation/z360_walk_navigation.js" keep="true" spot_scale="2" />
From those positions the links between scenes are built automatically, with limits for how many arrows a scene gets and for their angle and distance. Optional link elements correct single ways — hide one, aim it by hand, move it closer when it lands on a table, rename it, or link two floors where the plans share no geometry.
- built-in chevron in any colour, or your own arrow image
- labels with the scene title and the real distance in metres
- walls hide arrows behind them in tours with a depthmap or a 3D model
- VR: arrows in both eyes, gaze activation through the krpano WebVR plugin
- a calibration mode that aims a way in the view and prints the finished link line
- reduced motion is respected
Verified on krpano 1.23.2, 1.23.3 and 1.24 — the same file works on all three. Tested in Chromium, Firefox and WebKit with phone emulation, and checked on a real iPhone, a real Android phone and a VR headset.
One limit worth knowing in advance: the plugin file is encrypted with the krpano public key, so a viewer built with the Protect Tool options -pxml or -pplg refuses it. Build the viewer without those two options and it loads normally.
