Google maps has a lot of trouble loading images, I get a URL not found error VERY often in a test scenario, I don't want to think when I release to the public how many of those errors will pop-up, so my question, would it be posible to use virtual earth instead of google maps? I don't know if its possible to have maybe an option to select from google maps or virtual earth and then the plugin will select the apropiate server/code? if I could afford the source code I would play with it, to implement it, but its too expensive for me right now, anyways, Klaus I hope its possible I am starting to hate google maps
posible to use Virtual Earth?

I have embedded maps into 3 yours and have not had any issues with the map loading at all. i will pay closer attention to any issues I have with maps loading and report back but to date I have had none to speak of.

You might not see them if you use IE, FF its the only one that pops up with the error, you can see that it happened because they will be a gray are on the map, I know its not the plugins fault, since I get the same problems with the regular google maps, and have tried on several locations with different computers.
can I see your tours using the Google maps plugin?

Hi,
strange, I didn't have any problems with the google maps yet...
currently it's not possible to use Virtual Earth,
but if you want to try to implement it, I can give you the Googlemaps plugin sources for freebest regards,

there no loading trouble with your gmap plugin because it use an api key, so google servers know who's loading map tiles,
people like shanti had surely mistaken something else...or experimented a time where map were updated in google servers...
by the way satellite map tiles had been updated (the sea color is different now)well implementing Virtual Earth is very easy,
you just have to add an extra Umap component and add a xml parameter to switch from google flash api to Umap,
but it will double the plugin weight... i can give it a try if the source is available for freeSee U

Zadda, I don't know why I keep getting those errors, not just on this plugin, maybe because I am using the debug version of the Flash player, but I got the source, and as Klaus warned, its not easy, since he is not using Umap :)
so right now I am trying to go trough all the code, and try to add umap to this plugin with the fuctions for the radar, I don't think it will be twice as big, since umap has all the functions for all the maps included.
still trying to figure it out, but I think its possible, I am not as good AS3 coder as Klaus (man, my respects!) but still trying :)

Hi Shanti,
IMHO the easy way is to do 2 differents scenes in your fla, first with google api and second with Umap, and add a parameter in your xml to choose from the scene to play at loading time...

yeah, that's the idea, but i am trying to get the radar working on umap, I don't want just the map :)

...Hi Klaus,
Can I take you up on your offer regarding the availability of the source code to port the radar to Virtual Earth? I've got a project coming up that needs the oblique views of Virtual Earth and it would be great to get the radar going as well. Drop me a message is that's an option.
Thanks
Lee

Shanti,
How did you get on with getting the radar to work in Umap as a plugin?
